ANONYMITY (Is it really possible on the Internet?)
by Terry ini should begin by screaming the word: no!.
keeping secret your identity while posting in a public forum is like removing your pubic hair with a blowtorch.
which is to say, theoretically possible but not at all feasible!.

Sorry, every variation I've tried doesn't seem to work.. Could you ask whoever gave you the link what the 'title' was, or if not tell us what it's meant to be about.. Then we might be able to search for it, thanks :)

Op: "If you are a lurker with an identity to hide... If you are an active Jehovah's Witness with watchful eyes sniffing you out for your curiousity... If you are a fader.... If you are in the middle of a lawsuit...... I want you to get a 4x5 notecard and Magic Marker and write these words on it and attach it to the middle of your computer screen: YOU WILL BE CAUGHT---YOU WILL BE ACCUSED---ARE YOU READY FOR WHAT COMES NEXT? Don't kid yourself. Be ready for what comes. Because...it IS coming.....and it is coming for YOU! Be ready....be prepared....BEWARE!" Hands up any new ones who want to join us today?... I'll shut up now :)

' I'm sure I don't understand what you mean by "cheap psychological trick"--you'll have to explain how you come up with that one. ' ..Now you have explained that you were simply expressing your thoughts, I take that back. I thought that you were perhaps trying to get people to realise that they could be 'outed' at any time, and your line where you said ''the only thing that stands between you and peace of mind..etc'', I thought that was suggesting that they should express themselves, so I apologise for the misunderstanding..I won't be posting again for a while, get my head straight hopefully so I can talk some sense for a change.. I do still think, though, that your blowtorch illustration (along with the idea that you CANNOT post here and remain anonymous) and the end of your post is, in itself, paranoia inducing..even if I may be overreacting. I even thought about leaving and not coming back for a second! Imagine for a second that you are a frightened and paranoid Jw daring to come to this site for the first time.. And you come across this thread.. With that dramatic Block Capital ending (please reread it as you imagine this) about how you WILL be caught.. So, do you now feel like making that 1st post.... No? In life, there are people who just 'tell it like it is' because they don't give a damn how what they say might make people feel. No idea if that's you, I'm not suggesting that it is.. But IF your aim in posting threads like this is to help people, rewording it slightly might have made an excellent point (as in be careful sharing personal info via any means when you have so much to lose) less distressing and offputting for any new ones who are lurking/nervous types. None of this is having a go at you personally..

Nicolaou -- I know it's 'optional' (good grief that sounds condascending) , I'm now an atheist myself in case you have the wrong idea.. I just want to hear different peoples stories of journeying from belief to disbelief. So, what is yours?

You make some good points but your ending and blowtorch illustration seem like melodramatic nonsense, to me anyway. Not even Simon has my real name, email or any other details.. And I've left no personal details to identify me on the forum. And I don't speak to anyone here via email/im etc.. Are you trying to give people a push to 'be themselves' and 'speak out', by getting them to believe that they can and WILL be traced? Cheap psychological trick.. and do you even consider the kind of physical/emotional/financial damage that such emotionally manipulative ploys could cause if a paranoid/nervous type took your long-winded speech literally? But why would you care..

Theists, why does God allow suffering..
by The Quiet One in..specifically, the suffering of animals.
you can talk about free will/sin/people choosing to not listen to god etc to explain human suffering being allowed.. but how can you love a god that allows animals, that haven't sinned or chosen to not have anything to do with god, to have their short lives ended in often long, drawn out, painful ways.
i could list stories i've read that would probably make you feel ill, but i'm not looking to shock anyone or start an emotional debate.
